UNB Spencer Loop Ride - 15th January 2023

A beautiful day on the Northern Beaches. Six riders assembled at St. Ives anticipating a great days riding. There was no ride leader so we decided as per the ride calendar to head for the PITS and see if anyone else would like to join us. Lo and behold Suitcase was there on the table of knowledge expounding his theories on all manner of subjects. After coffee and sustenance and not being able to persuade any others to join the now seven riders headed down the old highway to Calga. Luckily Vaughn had brought along his phone with the Wayz app installed which showed where the sneaky boys in blue were hiding. THEY WERE EVERYWHERE so we crawled along at the speed limit. Unfortunately one of our group who was well behind the main group didn't see the motorbike at the end of the straight just after the Road Warriors cafe. Bingo a bluebottle getting his quota!!!

We turned left at Calga and headed for Central Mangrove where we again turned left and headed towards Spencer (The Centre of the Universe). The road surface wasn't too bad considering all the rain we had had prior to Christmas. At Spencer we partook of luncheon purchased from the cafe which was looking quite smart and under new management. Trent, the owner introduced himself as we had sat ourselves down at a nice long white table with plenty of shade. He told us the table had been booked by a group of rough bikes but that we could stay there until they arrived. They never arrived!!! As usual we solved the problems of the world and everyone bagged my impending purchase of an EV (Electric Vehicle). Ignoring all the ignorant BS I soldiered on. After lunch we headed to Wisemans Ferry to continue our "loop". This part of the road was in a word "atrocious" with mucho 40 kph sections and potholes that you could lose an army in. There were two ferries running so we didn't have to wait and made the crossing in double quick time. We didn't stop on the other side and continued on along Great Northern Road to the turn-off for the Berowra Ferry. I was heading home as my engine sounded like a sick puppy due to fuel leaking over the left cylinder back at St. Ives at the beginning of the ride.

All good and I arrived home with engine running smoothly. I assume that everyone else got home Ok as they didn't appear on the evening news!!!

Great days riding with ageing but interesting company.

Alan
