Ulysses Multi-branch meeting - 15th April 2023
Venue: Kemp’s Creek Sporting and Bowling Club, Elizabeth Drive, Kemps Creek.
Branches attending: Eastern Creek, St. George, Northern Beaches, Wollondilly, Nepean and Hills District.
There was no set agenda. Tim Shelton reiterated the reason for the meeting was to develop ideas to increase the membership of the Ulysses Club.
Each attendee introduced themselves and spoke of ideas their branch had to encourage membership:
(1) More combined branch rides as they were seen as being very successful. More than seventy riders to the last ride to Grey Gums Café. St. George branch are going to organise the next combined branch ride to Woronora Dam, date to be decided.
(2) Create a combined ride calendar Facebook page where the Ride Co-ordinators from each branch can add their rides. It would have ‘public’ access but only the ride co-ordinators would have admin rights.
(3) Combined branch overnighter to Mudgee on June long week-end. Nepean branch to organise.
(4) There is still a strong push to drop the age requirement of 40 to be a member of Ulysses.
Constitution Review Committee (CRC).
The CRC have submitted their updated Ulysses Club Constitution to NATCOM. It is based on the Registrar of Fair Trading NSW, “Model Rules” for the structure and content of a Constitution. NATCOM have responded with their changes but based on the previous constitution adopted at the Warwick Rally in 2022 not the constitution submitted by the CRC which seems a bit strange. Because the NATCOM constitution is non-compliant according to the CRC they are unable to support it.
One of the main issues the CRC have is with 3) in the following clause:
17. NOMINATIONS FOR NATIONAL COMMITTEE Subject to Clause 17:
1) The National Secretary shall call for nominations for Office-bearers and Ordinary Committee members in the Club’s Official Publication or by notice served on the members no less than 150 days prior to the date set for the Annual General Meeting in the following year.
2) Nominations for the National Committee close 90 days before the Annual General Meeting of the Club.
3) Nominations for National President and National Vice President must be a member of the current National Committee, but, if no nomination is received then a past member of the National Committee can nominate.
4) The National Committee must notify the members of all nominations received within 7 days of the closing date for nominations.
According to the “Model Rules” any member of the association/club is eligible to stand for the committee so 3) above in non-compliant.
The NATCOM version of the new constitution and the resolution to pass it at the rally in Lismore are available on the Ulysses Club website.
The next Ulysses Multi-branch meeting is scheduled for 22nd July 2023.
