Currarong Ride 20th April 2023

 Today’s ride to Currarong.

I didn’t expect anyone to turn up due to the forecast, it was a bit misty at departure so we all agreed to head straight to the Robertson Pie Shop as it was looking bleak along the coast. The ride to Robbo was brisk and dry up the mountain. Pies were hot and weather mild. Post pies it still looked dodgy along the coast so we scratched Currarong and went for a skid around the southern highlands. All good all the way home, never trust a forecaster.

  Last time I visited Mt Piper it was a big wheel in the NSW power supply. Today it represents only about 1/3 of the total. Wind and solar are now the predominant energy sources in NSW. Mt Piper is scheduled to play a support role rather than the base load role it had played in the past. A fascinating view into the past! 17 riders arrived at Macca’s Vineyard for the ride to the historical Mt Piper Power Station. Situated between Portland and Wallerawang, there were a number of possible routes to the well supported visitor’s area, I selected the one that would get everyone there without the need to spend time on the gravel. I was hopeful that we would see all at the destination. It was not to be so. We lost one rider before we even left the Macca’s. Rob T had seniors moment stepping off his bike at the refuelling garage so now we were down to 16.   Australian Infantry Museum Ride The weather lately has been all over the shop and as a regular motorcycle rider one tends to keep a close eye on the weather forecast and this week more so for me. When my name pop’s up on the ride calendar to lead a ride, one invariably has a sense of duty to see it through, if it is to be its up to me.    On checking my weather apps including the BOM radar I wasn’t completely satisfied so looking out the window blurry eyed to double check I was convinced that it was going to be a good one and more than likely would be greeted by thirty or so overzealous riders at 7 Eleven Berowra.   - a Perfect Day at Wangi Wangi It was a beautiful day, perhaps the most beautiful day of the year. A few fluffy clouds, a steady 23 degrees dipping to  a freshening 21 degrees as we ascended up to Peats Ridge and - Life is Good. You know the feeling! There were an indomitable dozen of us. Actually a couple more who left at morning tea, but not before they paid their dues to UCARF, who had arranged the perfect weather which ran contrary to the misleading, dire and deceptive representations from the weather bureau and the ABC. I was amused at the way, in almost perfect (sorry to use that word again, but it was that sort of day) formation the dozen followed me. Swooping up the old road at precisely the speed limit, if the speed limit had been the one I thought appropriate. Southern Highlands Ride 18th July 2024

Heathcote  - Robertson - Thirlmere - Third Time Lucky!   The weather was just fantastic today. 14deg when we set out from Heathcote; 9deg at Robertson and then a high of 18deg heading back into Sydney. Sunny. Crisp. And not a drop of rain. Or mist. Or fog. Just a fantastic day for a ride!   So . . . with the weather report done with, here's the ride report!   Seven of us set out from Macca's, Heathcote for what was our (my!) third attempt at this ride. That's three years of trying to get this ride done! Seven of us on BMWs (3  x GS's, 1 x XR, 1 x RT), a Yamaha and a KTM. On the two previous occasions we lost people due to poor navigation (or, more accurately, poor following of the ride leader's instructions!) or due to seriously wet weather that had us abandon the ride mid-way through.   But not this time! Berowra PADPAL Ride 29th Feb 2024

  With temperatures expected to soar during the day the 9 riders at Berowra were under no illusions regarding the ride comfort wise, it was already quite warm at 9:30am. The suggestion was made of a ride to Spencer via Ebenezer Church on the basis that there was shade at the church and some shade along River and Wisemans Ferry roads. It also should result in a loop to the Pie in time to escape the worst of the heat. Ah the best laid plans of mice and men eh! Naturally the suggestor had other things planned so couldn’t possibly lead such a ride and since I had managed to avoid leading for at least a couple of weeks I put my hand up. Clearly I had learned nothing from the last hot day ride I was on which involved ferries. Anyway, the ride group was all experienced Thursday Riders who knew where Ebenezer Church and Spencer were so I announced a TEC (thanks Alan) to gather up any stragglers but no corner marking because sitting stationary out in the heat just wasn’t on.
