Ride to Mangrove Creek Dam - Sunday 21st July 2024

It was a beautiful sunny morning if a bit chilly.

Six hardy GONBUC members (including ride leader) turned up at St. Ives ready for a days spectacular riding. The plan was to ride to the 7-Eleven Mobil Service station at Berowra to pick up Monsieur Valise aka Suitcase. When we got there, there were mucho motorcycles and it took a while to find Suitcase. After waiting for Captain Andy to finish washing and polishing his new bike  at the fuel pump we set off for the Berowra Ferry. There was no traffic on the road down to the ferry so we had an uninterrupted trip except for a small tree lying on the side of the road. We managed to avoid said tree (including MTC) and arrived at the ferry in good time to board. The trip from the Berowra ferry to Wisemans ferry went without a hitch. We stopped at the Wisemans Ferry Park Reserve and purchased coffee and other delicacies from the Kiosk for our morning tea.

Our merry band of brothers and MTC

Much analysing of the previous day's world-wide computer glitch was done and the general consensus was that it wouldn't have happened if we'd been in charge!!!
After we had finished stuffing our faces we headed for the ferry to cross the mighty Hawkesbury River. There it was waiting patiently for us so we clambered aboard and set sail into the great unknown of Spencer and all points east. We had promised Andy that the road was void of any loose gravel from roadworks, but we lied. Luckily Geoff warned the riders behind him of the impending catastrophe and so they tip-toed through the gravel without incident.
After a regroup at Mangrove Mountain shops we headed to Kulnura and Mangrove Creek Dam. There were a few visitors there but plenty of space for our band of geriatric bikers. The barbecues worked well and such a variety of fare was on offer from Italian garlic snags,  chorizo covered in John W's magic potion, Andy's bog standard snag and Suitcase's Woolies special. John O and MTC preferred something more exotic in antipasto.
Enjoying the fruits of our labour at the Bar-B-Q

After our repast was complete some of us headed back to the PITS for a cleansing coffee. When we got there the place was chockers with all manner of bogans so the ride leader decided to keep going.

A great days riding. Thanks for the company and thanks to John W for sweeping up the tail-enders in his magic spider.

Cheers

Alan
