PADPAL Ride 24th Apr 2025

Image
6 hardy souls braved the double whammy of double D’s AND inclement weather and apart from a very serious heart starter half way down the hill to the Peats Ferry bridge a good time was had by all. As Ride Leader I thought I would see how many things I could do wrong and my score got pretty high. Think no briefing, no TEC (although I think Tony was a close 2nd on that at the back, thanks Tony), no corner marking, leaving the pack behind (either that or they were giving me too much rope 😜 ) and I led the entire pack into a speed trap whilst doing a tad more than the posted limit 👍🏻🤣 .  I didn’t even manage to avoid all the very frequent showers although here I came a close second with only one brief downpour actually catching up with us and a couple of sprinkles whilst riding on very wet roads showing we had just dodged a bullet! I had even done a chain swap on my bike the previous week and not tested it, belatedly discovering I’d managed to fit the gear pedal one cog tooth...

Oberon Loop Ride 17th Apr 2025

Growing up as the eldest of seven, Mum used to say there were two types of people in this world, “Catholics, and non-Catholics”. Then, when we lived in Mosman, a fellow we knew there told us there were two types of people in this world, “those that live in Mosman, and those who wished they lived in Mosman”. More recently, I’ve come to believe there are only two types of people in this world, those that ride a BMW, and those that wished they rode a BMW   This is just a bit of background to explaining our day today. About 10 of us arrived at Maccas McGraths Hill this morning, a little disappointing I thought but, given the weather, which was quite wet along the coastal fringe, not surprising. We lost one, Frosty, before we had started. Ian had just joined us for a coffee and chat before meeting some racing types to discuss, apparently, racing. Anyway, we headed off up Bells Line, turned left at Bell onto the Darling Causeway then right onto Hartley Vale Rd, a sneaky little sho...

Pokolbin Ride 10th Apr 2025

Between 17 and 20 bikes were on this ride depending on where you where!!   The weather was pleasant but overcast at the 7-Eleven, Berowra.   As there were no virgins or other miscellaneous beings I opened the briefing with a riddle:   “What borders on insanity!!!”   There were e few feeble attempts at an answer, none correct.   “Canada and Mexico”   Some mild titters …. tough audience.   On to the business of the day. We’re heading to Pokolbin today to the Hunter Valley Gardens. Some bright spark piped up that we were banned from Hunter Valley Gardens because this tight-arsed mob don’t spend anything and they use and abuse the toilet facilities. We’re still going there I said. It transpired later that the venue from which we were banned was the Wollombi Pub, so fake news struck again.   The route for today was old road, Peats Ridge, Kulnura, Bumble Hill through Yarramalong with morning tea at the Triangle. Corner marking will be enforced....

Broke Ride 3rd Apr 2025

Good morning. Eleven brave and enthusiastic TR’s set out from McGraths Hill precisely on time. However two additional TR’s were still waiting at Berowra. Nevertheless Richo and Paul made it to Broke on time via the alternate route. Thanks to John for acting TEC and a welcome clap provided to Robert as our resident virgin. Now as mentioned during the brief I am navigationally challenged. Therefore my ride instructions brief. Turn right over the bridge then stop at Grey gums. After a short recess, ride to Broke sign and turn right. You will arrive at your destination!!  All of that aside the road delivered a wonderful sensation of enjoyment. It was terrific riding and average speed impressive if not for some annoying roadworks. Not much more to say really but it seemed to be over before it started. On our arrival we were pleasantly greeted by Paul and Richo but also Danny and Alan the Scott was there. Lots of usual chat about Trump and footy. Though Kath and Kim were later to ...

Armidale Rally Report 24-30 Mar 2025

Armidale Rally Report  Day 1  Sunday 23 March 2025 Departing  9am  from 7Eleven Berowra there were 11 bikes. We took the old Hwy to arrive at Jerry’s for morning tea and meet up with another rider from the Central Coast. Now we had 12 bikes and 1 pillion. It rained all the way to Jerry’s. We were looking forward to a coffee, but we found Jerry’s closed. After a disappointing stop at Jerry’s, we rode straight through to Maccas Singleton for a light lunch then it was onto East Gresford, Dungog to the Bucketts Way Motel Gloucester. On arrival at the Bucketts Way Motel we caught up with more people joining our group. The Bucketts Way Motel is currently charging $120 single & $140 double. We all met up at the Roundabout Inn for drinks and dinner. We booked the function room for 20. Nothing stays the same. The menu for dinner and the food was good, better than the last time I was there on an overnighter with the Thursday Riders.    Day 2  Monday 2...
