Broke Ride 3rd Apr 2025

 Good morning. Eleven brave and enthusiastic TR’s set out from McGraths Hill precisely on time. However two additional TR’s were still waiting at Berowra. Nevertheless Richo and Paul made it to Broke on time via the alternate route. Thanks to John for acting TEC and a welcome clap provided to Robert as our resident virgin. Now as mentioned during the brief I am navigationally challenged. Therefore my ride instructions brief. Turn right over the bridge then stop at Grey gums. After a short recess, ride to Broke sign and turn right. You will arrive at your destination!!  All of that aside the road delivered a wonderful sensation of enjoyment. It was terrific riding and average speed impressive if not for some annoying roadworks. Not much more to say really but it seemed to be over before it started. On our arrival we were pleasantly greeted by Paul and Richo but also Danny and Alan the Scott was there. Lots of usual chat about Trump and footy. Though Kath and Kim were later to see Andrea (forgot his last name?) at the stadium with other adoring fans. This little duck went home via Woollombi and Peats Ridge to a shower then bed!!  Thanks to all for attendance and rewarding riding. See you in Mudgee if not before.

  Last time I visited Mt Piper it was a big wheel in the NSW power supply. Today it represents only about 1/3 of the total. Wind and solar are now the predominant energy sources in NSW. Mt Piper is scheduled to play a support role rather than the base load role it had played in the past. A fascinating view into the past! 17 riders arrived at Macca’s Vineyard for the ride to the historical Mt Piper Power Station. Situated between Portland and Wallerawang, there were a number of possible routes to the well supported visitor’s area, I selected the one that would get everyone there without the need to spend time on the gravel. I was hopeful that we would see all at the destination. It was not to be so. We lost one rider before we even left the Macca’s.   - a Perfect Day at Wangi Wangi It was a beautiful day, perhaps the most beautiful day of the year. A few fluffy clouds, a steady 23 degrees dipping to  a freshening 21 degrees as we ascended up to Peats Ridge and - Life is Good. You know the feeling! There were an indomitable dozen of us. Actually a couple more who left at morning tea, but not before they paid their dues to UCARF, who had arranged the perfect weather which ran contrary to the misleading, dire and deceptive representations from the weather bureau and the ABC. I was amused at the way, in almost perfect (sorry to use that word again, but it was that sort of day) formation the dozen followed me. Swooping up the old road at precisely the speed limit, if the speed limit had been the one I thought appropriate. Southern Highlands Ride 18th July 2024

Heathcote  - Robertson - Thirlmere - Third Time Lucky!   The weather was just fantastic today. 14deg when we set out from Heathcote; 9deg at Robertson and then a high of 18deg heading back into Sydney. Sunny. Crisp. And not a drop of rain. Or mist. Or fog. Just a fantastic day for a ride!   So . . . with the weather report done with, here's the ride report!   Seven of us set out from Macca's, Heathcote for what was our (my!) third attempt at this ride. That's three years of trying to get this ride done! Seven of us on BMWs (3  x GS's, 1 x XR, 1 x RT), a Yamaha and a KTM. On the two previous occasions we lost people due to poor navigation (or, more accurately, poor following of the ride leader's instructions!) or due to seriously wet weather that had us abandon the ride mid-way through.   But not this time!   10 or so riders gathered at Berowra looking for a ride whilst the rest of the mob were off gallivanting in Gloucester. One, yours truly, went to the loo and upon his return found himself elected ride leader. The destination was set on Broke (clearly no-one had looked at the ride calendar) and when challenged on where morning tea would be I blurted out Wollombi without thinking. The group rolled out a few minutes before  10am , cos we can so nur 🥳The ride up to Wollombi was brisk but uneventful after successfully navigating the booze bus set up on the outskirts of Berowra and the weather was glorious. I even remembered to slow down for the speed cameras so my portrait wasn’t blurred 🤣 Whilst sat around the benches in Slacks Park riders raised the issue of the leg to Broke being too short so I proposed extending it to Pokolbin Park. Not the Megalong Valley Ride 30th April 2026

    15 riders gathered at McDonalds, McGraths Hill, with little idea where where they were going! After the Megalong Valley ride was scuttled by a collapse on Victoria Pass, several replacements were considered. The winner  was a ride via the Grass Farms, Kurmond, Comleroy Rd. through to Sackville Ferry, Wisemans Ferry, Spencer and Mangrove mountain. Concensus then took us to Somersby and the the full length of the 'Old Road'. It was pretty slow through the Grass Farms, partially due to the ride being very spread out. After gathering at Kurmond we followed Comleroy Rd and then Bull Ridge Rd. through to Sackville Ferry where a flight of swallows put on an aerial display, missing me by less than 30cms. several times. We were again spread out on the way to Wisemans Ferry for morning tea.
