Oberon Loop Ride 17th Apr 2025

Growing up as the eldest of seven, Mum used to say there were two types of people in this world, “Catholics, and non-Catholics”.

Then, when we lived in Mosman, a fellow we knew there told us there were two types of people in this world, “those that live in Mosman, and those who wished they lived in Mosman”.

More recently, I’ve come to believe there are only two types of people in this world, those that ride a BMW, and those that wished they rode a BMW

This is just a bit of background to explaining our day today. About 10 of us arrived at Maccas McGraths Hill this morning, a little disappointing I thought but, given the weather, which was quite wet along the coastal fringe, not surprising. We lost one, Frosty, before we had started. Ian had just joined us for a coffee and chat before meeting some racing types to discuss, apparently, racing. Anyway, we headed off up Bells Line, turned left at Bell onto the Darling Causeway then right onto Hartley Vale Rd, a sneaky little short cut sealed road we used to use years ago, rather than going thru Mt Victoria. A bit pot holly but fun. Anyway this brought us out again at the Gt Western Highway, and we turned off at Historic Hartley for morning tea. A nice spot to stop with a few historic buildings like a Court House, Church and Rectory (well named I thought), where the priests used to live…

At this point we lost Paul M and Peter W, who’d had some mechanical or electrical issues with his KTM, which takes me back to my intro about people who wished they rode a BMW

So, after morning tea, I think 6 of us continued on up Jenolan Caves Rd thru Hampton and Duckmaloi to the park at Oberon, where we enjoyed the sunshine, sambos and chit chat before heading back via Tarana and Sodwalls to complete the “Loop”.

I had a great day and I hope those that joined me did also. Thanks Rod for doing the TEC duties

Cheers, Kim
