4 Ferries Ride 18th Dec 2015

 After an e-mail telling me of roadworks on the Sackville Ferry road being unsuitable for bikes, the 4 ferries ride was truncated to 2 ferries.

The first ferry was Berowra Waters. The coffee stop was the Stonehouse Cafe, which was closed.

Not to worry as most riders were probably not going to buy anything anyway.

After some discussion it was decided that Wisemans ferry was a bit early for lunch, so we proceeded on the second ferry to Spencer. 

Nobody else there except for some ducks looking for a handout.

After lunch it was every man for himself and to the PITS.

A somewhat warm but pleasant ride.

Rylestone Ride 22-23rd July 2026

  We should ride every Wednesday. The weather was perfect. 17 Cowpersons (there were 2 cowgirls and 15 cowboys) headed out of Berowra, north toward Wollombi. As well as an early springtime, paranoia was in the air as we passed, unhindered as it turned out, through the speed traps and patrol cars on the Old Highway before stopping at Jerry’s for coffee.     A lovely run through Wollombi, and via the Martindale back road into Denman for lunch. Next the Bylong Valley Way, wonderfully green and picturesque with cattle standing like statues and at that lolling speed which is quick but leisurely. This is a classic motorcycling road. Then on to Rylstone, and the World-famous Globe Hotel.   The Globe describes itself as 3 star, but that is not quite true. Let me get to that. The rooms are small; a bit bigger than a ‘phone box with thermodynamic construction to keep them cold in winter and hot in summer, and with a shared and distant bathroom. Norah Head Ride 29th July 2026

  With a crystal blue sky and not a cloud in sight, what better than a trip to the beach. Except the fur seals were shivering with the cold, so it was down to 22 intrepid Thursday Riders to venture out to Norah Head with varying degrees of insulation between themselves and the self induced 100 kph wind chill.   We took the Old Road to Somersby and then on to Jerry’s for morning tea. Rather fortuitously, just as we were finishing up there, two marked and a possible third unmarked police car rolled into the car park. Unfortunately there wasn’t time for a chat, so we all left in a very orderly and law abiding way with the thought that the road ahead should be free of licence endangering encounters.   And so it proved to be as we traversed Bumble Hill and took the long roads back to the coast - Yarramalong, Dooralong and Mandalong. Mudgee 2 Day Ride Report 21-22nd May 2025

  18 odd seasoned riders enthusiastically departed McGraths Hill   at 9:30am  determined to make the best of the inclement weather conditions. Off to Lithgow for morning tea, all arrived slightly damp due to the precipitation along the way. Next to Macca’s Kelso, via Tarana for lunch where a couple of riders refuelled before journeying towards Mudgee, the diversion to Hill End was cancelled as it was thought to be better to arrive in Mudgee sooner rather than later…also allowing more time at the Oriental Hotel and prepare for the traditional dinner. Next morning plan B needed to be evoked because the snow ploughs were being prepared in anticipation of further rain and a number of roads back to Sydney were already suspect with lots of water making riding conditions challenging. Kiama Ride 15th Aug 2024

  As predicted, with many riders away and the weather abominable , it was a no show on Thursday .     I left Freshwater in light but constant rain , but once past the airport the roads became dry .    Arrived at Heathcote Maccas  9.40 am  , no takers by 10.15 , so as I scouted some roads down south in case I get to lead a ride that way in the future .    The road from the top of Mt Kiera to Mt Kembla was very pleasant and worth another look .    Regards  Peter Greenwood
