Festival of Speed Motorcycle Classic - Sydney Motorsports Park - 18th February 2023
Mad dogs, a Czech and an Irishman turned up at St. Ives on a scorching hot Saturday. Everybody else wimped out!!! With no more riders appearing we set off at a leisurely pace into the furnace via Mona Vale Road, M2, M7 and Great Western Highway arriving at Sydney Motorsports Park at around 10am. As there were no signs indicating there was an event on at the park we rode right past the entrance and only realising we had missed it when Bondi appeared on the horizon!!!
When we eventually found the right entrance we parked our trusty steeds and proceeded to get into our "cool" gear of shorts and sandals. The temperature was around 35C but we were ready for it with bottles of water, sunscreen and appropriate head gear.

We wandered past the various pits taking the odd photo:

All you knowledgeable bikers can work out what they are ... apart from all being Hondas.
There was a gold coin donation for entry. Not many stalls so a fairly low key affair.
The program started with qualifying although neither of us worked that out until it was over. The program was available to be downloaded using a QR code which was pushing Danny's technical skills to the limit. Troy Corser rode a hot Katana to victory in one race but finished 5th in his second race on the same bike after a shocking start. There was a sidecar race which was pretty exciting especially the one that blew his GSX1250R engine on the main straight. We watched the first ten races of a fifteen race program before we ran up the white flag and headed for our bikes. After changing back into our riding gear and suffering first degree burns from our "hot" bikes we retraced our morning route ahead of a storm that had been threatening us at the track.
Thanks to Danny for joining me on this beautiful summer's day!!
Alan
