Hassans Wall Ride 28th Sept 2023

Ten brave souls made it to Hassans Walls Lookout!!! |
I woke up to a rather damp morning and thought, bugger it too wet to go riding …. back to bed!!!
Double bugger I have to go as I’m leading the bl…y ride.
After scoffing my breakfast and struggling into my very expensive waterproof Rukka riding gear off I went to Maccas Mc Graths Hill hoping no one would turn up and I can get back to my warm bed.
No such luck as twelve sorry souls turned up and wanted to be “lead”.
With no virgins and everybody ignoring my ride briefing I jumped on my trusty GS and headed for the Turf Farms hoping the rest of the sheep would follow. Surprisingly they did with young Pete of the yellow braces taking up the rear.
There was a steady drizzle coming from the heavens and I was particularly annoyed as the BOM seers had decreed that the clouds will part and sunshine shall prevail. Bollocks! As we made our way along the Bells Line of Road in a westerly direction I glanced hopefully at the dark clouds above for some sign of the promised weather.
No such luck.
Morning tea was scheduled for the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens at Mt Tomah where I was hoping we could view the spring flowers and educate this rabble with some of the finer points of the local flora. Fat chance as the pesky drizzle persisted. Luckily we could munch or repast under cover out of the rain. There were mutterings of we won’t see anything at Hassans Walls Lookout so why don’t we go somewhere else. I knocked that one on the head as my remit was to deliver this oddball crew to Hassans Walls Lookout and by golly I will. We waiteds Pete of the yellow braces put on his wet weather gear and makeup before we headed on. As we exited the Botanic Gardens a lollipop man stopped us to let a never ending stream of traffic past. It is still drizzling so a couple of riders turned right and headed back to Sydney. The rest of us brave souls headed west and lo and behold after a couple of Kms we came out of the cloud into bright and dry conditions. This is more like it as we twisted the throttle and headed for Lithgow on a DRY road!! Suddenly the sun came out and all was good with the world as we headed up the gravel track to Hassans Walls Lookout. Mission accomplished. It was all down to Pete of the yellow braces putting on his wet weather gear to encourage the sun to come out.
Some of us actually explored the look out and took a few pictures, see the one below to prove we were actually there.
After we had scoffed our lunch and solved the never ending problems of our universe we headed back down the track and retraced our route to the Bilpin Fruit Bowl for some more sustenance and bullshit.
Thanks to everyone who came along and double thanks the Pete of the yellow braces for the TEC duties and appeasing the rain gods.
A good day’s riding after all.
Alan
