Kiama Ride 21st May 2026

 Yesterdays ride down south to Kiama had perfect weather for riding, around 19 degrees and sunny. Hardly any cars on the road and we moved along briskly, National Park, Old Highway, Mount Kembla which is now closed by a chained gate….so u turn down Mount Kiera to Jamberoo for smoko.

Thoughtful conversation ensued about divisions 296 and 855 of the Income Tax Assessment Act. Lots of discussion about the recent budget, no discussion about dodgy motorcycles or dealers, financial matters consumed the conversation.

 

Then up to Saddleback Mountain lookout, quick run down to Kiama Marina for fish n chips, we all left together, all but two of us diverted on the way home for some more National Park, quick stop at a very windy Bald Hill.

 

It was a nice day out, thanks to those on the ride.

 It was a beautiful sunny day as four of us met at the St. Ives starting point. Terry Fewell sent his apologies as he had a flat battery (so did his scooter). We headed off down Mona Vale road to the turn-off to McCarrs Creek Road. Taking this turn Bruce (our new member) thought his rough mate from Elanora might be waiting for us there but there was no sign. On we went down McCarrs Creek road to the turn-off for West Head and Akuna Bay where the Park Entry booth is. Suitcase had to fork out $12 for the pleasure of making the trip to West Head and Akuna Bay. The lookout at West Head gave us spectacular views up and down Pittwater and out to sea. Bruce, John, Suitcase and Alan - the usual suspects!! After admiring the views we jumped on our trusty steeds and headed to the Akuna Bay cafe for coffee and refreshments. Kiama Ride 2nd March 2023

  Yesterday’s ride report to Kiama. This was to be my first ride for 2023. I leapt out of bed earlier than usual  (more like a slow roll to the edge of the bed enabling my legs the use of gravity to travel to the floor) as I needed to check the battery / tyres etc. Duly went through my morning rituals. I won’t go into the details but suffice to say being mustard gassed may have been a more pleasant experience!  The weather looked good and BOM indicated no rain. Pulled on my riding jeans and waddled off to brekkie. It then proceeded to piss down with rain so waddled back upstairs cursing BOM and put my other riding pants on. Normally, I meet up with my riding mate Dangerous Davis but he decided not to go south of the border rather he would join the PADPAL bunch and then go and mow his lawns at his Wangi Wangi ranch. Currarong Ride 20th April 2023

  Today’s ride to Currarong. I didn’t expect anyone to turn up due to the forecast, it was a bit misty at departure so we all agreed to head straight to the Robertson Pie Shop as it was looking bleak along the coast. The ride to Robbo was brisk and dry up the mountain. Pies were hot and weather mild. Post pies it still looked dodgy along the coast so we scratched Currarong and went for a skid around the southern highlands. All good all the way home, never trust a forecaster.   Cheers Rod

Vale Geoff Wiltshire

  I have just had a phone call from Geoff's wife Joan to say that Geoff passed away this afternoon. He'd had a mini stroke on Wednesday and was on life support. The family decided to turn off that support today as there was no hope of recovery. There will be a private family funeral but Joan intends to have a memorial celebration in approximately three weeks when we can all celebrate/share our experiences of Geoff's fascinating and interesting life. He was an enthusiastic supporter and tireless worker for the Northern Beaches Branch of the Ulysses Club. I have many happy memories of riding to all sorts of strange places with him. Frazier Beach Mk2 5th January 2023

  The more things change the more they stay the same or so it seems to me anyway.   The pre-Xmas beach ride had 23 riders, the post-Xmas one had 9, the weather was near perfect for the first one and wet and miserable for the second. However we still managed to lose 2 riders when they missed the corner marker and both this time ended up in Patonga.   But first, back to the beginning…….   The day dawned damp with occasional drizzle and intermittent showers but as the leader I had to rock up anyway to see if anyone else was game. I guessed there might be the standard set of rain warriors but was gob-smacked when starters just kept rolling up until we were up to 9. Three of those were newish although only one had the clap as a virgin at the briefing as the other two had previously flirted with the group.   On the 7-11 forecourt there was a second group of riders, banana benders all, who were on a tour of NSW.
