Infantry Museum Ride 17th Oct 2024
Australian Infantry Museum Ride
The weather lately has been all over the shop and as a regular motorcycle rider one tends to keep a close eye on the weather forecast and this week more so for me. When my name pop’s up on the ride calendar to lead a ride, one invariably has a sense of duty to see it through, if it is to be its up to me.
On checking my weather apps including the BOM radar I wasn’t completely satisfied so looking out the window blurry eyed to double check I was convinced that it was going to be a good one and more than likely would be greeted by thirty or so overzealous riders at 7 Eleven Berowra. Sadly, this was not the case although easier to manage with only thirteen mildly enthusiastic riders on various makes and models of expensive petrol guzzling powerful machines, however nobody ever seems to complain about little things like that, it would only demoralise the pleasures of life we take for granted.
There were no newbies to welcome just the same old faces so after a short but concise briefing, some may beg to differ, as we digressed to Stephen’s charity BBQ ride for UCARF (Ulysses Club Arthritis Research Fund) to Wangi Wangi next Thursdayand in no uncertain terms emphasised the importance of not being a tight arse.
So, we hit the road to Jerry’s Café for morning tea. It’s always good at Jerry’s, lots to see and you always feel welcome. There wasn’t a lot of parking to begin with but as we were pulling in about a dozen bikes were leaving, so that worked out well.
The ride then took us to Broke where we turned right and continued to zig zag through some picturesque wine country coming out onto the New England Hwy at Hermitage Road south of Singleton. We arrived at the museum about 12.45pm. Those who had their own packed lunch used the outside tables and some bought their lunch inside at the Lone Pine Kiosk. After a stroll around the museum, we left for PITS via the Putty and Broke roads.
The ride was uneventful except for three lots of road works along the way which negated the need to stop and regroup at any time. For those who made it to PITS the milk shakes were great. I arrived home at 4.45pm and covered 387 kms. There were no U turns, no one got lost and the group kept together. Thanks to all the Corner Markers who generously gave up their valuable time and Rob for being TEC.
Cheers
Dave Sipple
