Southern Highlands Ride 13th Feb 2025

 7 Riders departed Heathcote Macca’s at 10:00am and trekked south towards the Kiama Blowhole for morning tea via Stanwell Tops.

We rode through the scenic National Park until we came across a road closure…no worries…lead by Rod we turned left and head northbound for 20k’s or so and crossed the Audley Weir before cutting back on to Pacific Highway and then headed south once again.
In due course we all arrived safely at the Kiama Blowhole for morning tea, the blizzard blowing at the time mucked up everyone’s hair style so after a quick M/ T we made our way back “up the mountain” (again lead by Rocket) towards the Robertson Pie Shop.
Mother Nature put on a display of some light precipitation, heavy fog and zero visibility at times whilst making our way to the Potato Capital of NSW.
As the balance of riders arrived for our lunch break in Robertson one rider was already partaking in his 2nd pie, obviously wanting to contribute to the local economy etc.
Back to Sydney via Tourist Road, the Southern Tablelands countryside was very green and pretty and the weather turned out to be warm and sunny as we jumped onto the Hume Motorway and made our way back home.

 It was a beautiful sunny day as four of us met at the St. Ives starting point. Terry Fewell sent his apologies as he had a flat battery (so did his scooter). We headed off down Mona Vale road to the turn-off to McCarrs Creek Road. Taking this turn Bruce (our new member) thought his rough mate from Elanora might be waiting for us there but there was no sign. On we went down McCarrs Creek road to the turn-off for West Head and Akuna Bay where the Park Entry booth is. Suitcase had to fork out $12 for the pleasure of making the trip to West Head and Akuna Bay. The lookout at West Head gave us spectacular views up and down Pittwater and out to sea. Bruce, John, Suitcase and Alan - the usual suspects!! After admiring the views we jumped on our trusty steeds and headed to the Akuna Bay cafe for coffee and refreshments.   - a Perfect Day at Wangi Wangi It was a beautiful day, perhaps the most beautiful day of the year. A few fluffy clouds, a steady 23 degrees dipping to  a freshening 21 degrees as we ascended up to Peats Ridge and - Life is Good. You know the feeling! There were an indomitable dozen of us. Actually a couple more who left at morning tea, but not before they paid their dues to UCARF, who had arranged the perfect weather which ran contrary to the misleading, dire and deceptive representations from the weather bureau and the ABC. I was amused at the way, in almost perfect (sorry to use that word again, but it was that sort of day) formation the dozen followed me. Swooping up the old road at precisely the speed limit, if the speed limit had been the one I thought appropriate. Currarong Ride 20th April 2023

  Today’s ride to Currarong. I didn’t expect anyone to turn up due to the forecast, it was a bit misty at departure so we all agreed to head straight to the Robertson Pie Shop as it was looking bleak along the coast. The ride to Robbo was brisk and dry up the mountain. Pies were hot and weather mild. Post pies it still looked dodgy along the coast so we scratched Currarong and went for a skid around the southern highlands. All good all the way home, never trust a forecaster.   Cheers Rod

Ride to Rumbalara Reserve - Sun 15th September

  Three of us (including Newbie Glynn) met at St Ives, set off for PITS Cowan, to find it packed with Classic Cars (how dare they) and teen bikers; we hastily departed, following the Old Road and Into East Gosford, stopping for Coffee n Cake at The Bakery – monstrous “snot-slice” – good coffee, sunshine. Did I mention that the weather was cool/cold, especially if not wearing winter gloves. With wind increasing, we originally found the Walking Path and THEN made use of   “Nellie-Never-Lost” to find Dolly Ave, leading us up, up, up and further UP into Rumbalara Reserve, all the way to the circular drive, then walked around, meeting pioneers Captain Charles Sturt, Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith, and Captain Matthew Flinders – all larger than life-size bronze sculptures. (Edward Eyre was in hiding.) The ride downhill was also pretty exciting, dodging pot-holes, looking out for oncoming traffic on the narrow track –DONE. Ride to Ulysses Rally in Lismore - Danny Stasenka and Alan Bateman - 2nd - 10th May 2023

 Danny and I were meant to set off for Lismore on Monday 1st May but as I was suffering from a bad cold we left the next day. We took the back road to Wollombi, Broke and on to the New England Highway at Singleton. The road from Wollombi to Broke was badly damaged by the recent rain and there were plenty of potholes to avoid. From Singleton we headed up the New England highway stopping at Murrurundi for lunch and fuel. The weather was fine if a bit cool and there wasn't a lot of traffic so we had a good run to Armidale where we stayed at the Deer Park Motor Inn. Feeding the deer at The Deer Park Motor Inn - Armidale On Wednesday we had breakfast at the Deer Park Motor Inn as it was included in the room tariff. The owner  (German) served us as he was having problems getting staff. After breakfast it was still a bit chilly (Armidale is 1100metres above sea level) so headed up the New England highway to Tenterfield with the grip warmers on flat chat.
