 The day started quite wet - but the forecast for Wollombi and Kitchener looked dry

 

12 Riders gathered at Berowra - some with wet weather gear on already

 

I briefed the riders  - it would be morning tea at Jerry's - there we could re-assess the weather conditions and change the route, or call it a day

 

Before we left several riders put on wet weather gear while some others took theirs off??

 

As we left there was a little bit of drizzle which soon cleared to a cloudy but fine day with mostly dry roads

 

No incidents  - all good

 

Then we arrived a Jerry's, I have never seen it before but there were no other bikes there - just us

 



A light rain started as we had coffee or a snack

 

After some consultation with the finest weather minds the group had to offer, it was decided that we would head to Wisemans Ferry seeking dry roads.

 

Great plan - roads were dry and clear of traffic, that allowed us to could travel at a decent pace.

 

All good until crossing on the Ferry, it slowed to a crawl as we were in the middle of the river, what happens to us if it stops? Lunch on the Ferry Deck?

 

The Ferry resumed it's normal pace and got us to lunch on the Wisemans side.

 

a good day out despite the weather

 

I did have one observation - BMW riders mustn't like to get their bikes dirty

Bike count - Yami - 3, Suzi -2, Kwaka -1, Honda -1 = Jap - 7 v BMW - 5

usually the ratio is something like 2 BMW's to 1 Jap bikes

  Departing Heathcote Macca’s   at 10:00am   6 riders (Peter #1, Peter #2, Peter #3 and Peter #4) along with one Dave and one Kieth tracked southward and through the Royal National Park and onto to Stanwell Tops. The road now is in very good shape after the completion of recent roadworks which hindered our last attempted ride through the National Park. Maintaining a steady pace down the Princes Highway to the Kiama Blowhole for morning tea where we were faced with blustery and windy conditions on arrival so diverted to the more sheltered and infamous Fish and Chip Cafe located next to the boat ramp. The weather was being kind to us as we prepared to tackled Jamberoo Road which took us up to the recently renovated Robertson Pie Shop for lunch. Luskintyre Ride 19th March 2026

  7 riders gathered at Berowra for the   9:30am  start of the trip to the airfield which was 6 more than I expected. There was wide agreement that this destination was very much weather dependent given the frequent showers already experienced on the way to the gather. As part of the ride briefing it was agreed that we would review the destination on approach to Kulnura and if that was good we would review again at morning tea in Wollombi. The weather apps gave differing views on the rain risk, some showing a dry trip and others not so much. Turns out these latter fortune tellers were on the money as it rained steadily but not heavily all the way to Central Mangrove. Just as I was set on calling a halt at Jerry’s the rain stopped and the roads became dry so we pushed on to Wollombi for smoko. Another look at the weather apps at Slacks Park showed lots of rain activity over Cessnock and Luskintyre so the group unanimously decided to give the airfield a miss and head back to...

Vale Geoff Wiltshire

  I have just had a phone call from Geoff's wife Joan to say that Geoff passed away this afternoon. He'd had a mini stroke on Wednesday and was on life support. The family decided to turn off that support today as there was no hope of recovery. There will be a private family funeral but Joan intends to have a memorial celebration in approximately three weeks when we can all celebrate/share our experiences of Geoff's fascinating and interesting life. He was an enthusiastic supporter and tireless worker for the Northern Beaches Branch of the Ulysses Club. I have many happy memories of riding to all sorts of strange places with him. Braidwood Ride 25-26th Feb 2016

               The Three Wise Men   With inclement weather in the offering,13 riders set off from McGraths Hill, with one nameless rider mistakenly ready to depart from Pheasants Nest, some 103km away. Scotty & Karen had planned to meet us at Oberon for lunch. A pleasant ride through to Oberon where the full group of 16 assembled, including Pheasants Nest Andrew! It was then a spirited ride down to Trappers Bakery at Goulburn via Shooters Hill. We then routed east to Bungonia and rejoined the main road at Tarago. At this point the dark clouds had moved in and the sky's opened up. Some stopped to put on their wets while others soldiered on to Braidwood. Suffice to say most ended up a little on the damp side.   It was then off to the Royal Hotel for a couple of 'frothy' ones and dinner. Glen Alice Ride 14th Mar 2024

  Despite the hot weather forecast, 17 riders turned up at Mcgraths Hill and 14 of them made it to lunch. Due to the road into The Garden of Stone still being closed the destination was changed to Glen Alice in the Capertee Valley. The ride up to Lithgow was frustratingly slow due to road works and trucks but after smoko at Maccas we had a clear run to the Capertee Valley. Lunch was at the cafe 'From the Paddock Farm Market' which is worth a visit if you have not been there before. As I needed to get back to Sydney, I abandoned the group and headed for home. As I pulled out the temperature was a pleasant 38 degrees! I assume everybody made it home safely with most returning the way we came and some continuing home via Rysltone and Denman.
