 10 or so riders gathered at Berowra looking for a ride whilst the rest of the mob were off gallivanting in Gloucester. One, yours truly, went to the loo and upon his return found himself elected ride leader.


The destination was set on Broke (clearly no-one had looked at the ride calendar) and when challenged on where morning tea would be I blurted out Wollombi without thinking.


The group rolled out a few minutes before 10am, cos we can so nur 🥳The ride up to Wollombi was brisk but uneventful after successfully navigating the booze bus set up on the outskirts of Berowra and the weather was glorious. I even remembered to slow down for the speed cameras so my portrait wasn’t blurred 🤣


Whilst sat around the benches in Slacks Park riders raised the issue of the leg to Broke being too short so I proposed extending it to Pokolbin Park. Everybody present agreed so I thought it was dusted buy a couple of riders then said they were going home via the Putty so would stop at Broke anyway. At Broke I stopped in the turn for Pokolbin and waited but one non-Putty rider sailed straight past despite airhorns and arm waving so one of the group went to retrieve him. Turns out he was in the loo during the discussion/decision of change of destination. So the lesson here is the loo is clearly a dangerous place for missing vital information and getting elected ride leader LOL!😜 

Again a beautiful ride up to Pokolbin Park was also uneventful and all arrived successfully, even the 2 riders who decided to avoid the Wollombi Rd to Broke so went via Cessnock instead.

After solving the world’s apparent problems of Crime and Punishment Paul led the group home but I’m not sure whether or not he was in the loo when the two riders who took the alternate route said the roadworks through Bellbird were terrible cos we spent 20 mins waiting in roadwork traffic in Bellbird on the way back😑

Back at the Pie we met up with remnants of the Gloucester ride group and tales of bent wheels and the famous hopping doughnuts.

  I have just had a phone call from Geoff's wife Joan to say that Geoff passed away this afternoon. He'd had a mini stroke on Wednesday and was on life support. The family decided to turn off that support today as there was no hope of recovery. There will be a private family funeral but Joan intends to have a memorial celebration in approximately three weeks when we can all celebrate/share our experiences of Geoff's fascinating and interesting life. He was an enthusiastic supporter and tireless worker for the Northern Beaches Branch of the Ulysses Club. I have many happy memories of riding to all sorts of strange places with him. Berowra PADPAL 15th December 2022

  The ride group elected a leader and he didn't argue, amazing! The ride was to be a Wollombi Loop which most were happy with, outstanding! There being no newbies and everyone knowing the way to Jerry's for smoko no corner marking was announced and no TEC identified. The route was follow the old road to the end, regather at Somersby turn for Mangrove Mt and the right for Jerry's at Kulnura. Well um - it kinda happened like that, just with a lot more confusion and interim gathers, random corner marking and traffic lights/roadworks. We had just arrived at Jerry's when 5 Hwy Patrol cars and 2 bikes rolled in to the carpark ..... honestly guv it wasn't us it was that other lot ... turns out they were having a coffee catchup. Nevertheless the group rolled out of Jerry's with a sigh of relief and it was a quick trip up to Slacks Park at Wollombi for lunch. Broke Ride 4th Sep 2025

 Well over 20 riders were eager for the ride to Broke via the PHW but some crazy drivers put and end to that by crashing at Jolls Bridge. Now it was my first lead and many asked me “where to now”!! So after some deliberation we voted to go on the Berowra ferry and then down to Wiseman’s for lunch. Off we went and only lost 5 on the way but we all met for a warm sunny coffee stop to discuss the many issues of life. After quick break a further debate of “so where to now” was resolved to go to Wollombi for lunch as time was slipping by. A fun run and we caught up with a rider (not to be named) who left McGraths Hill and went to Broke then back to Wollombi.   It was a small, sad-arsed group. But we’ll come back to that.     The morning started off interestingly. We motored off, eight of us, and almost immediately we were arrested. By the police. Of course, we denied everything, dobbed each other in without being asked and in due course, none of us having been found to be intoxicated by anything but the warm weather, were released. Soon the small and grumbling traffic jam we had help create moved on.   Off to Jerries at Kulnara for morning tea, or coffee. Some interesting news from Jerry. His establishment will be closed from next week to the end of January. He, with his family, are off to Vietnam. He has subbed in a catering van, so that coffee will be available but there will be no Portuguese tarts. Chifley Dam Ride 30th May 2024

Thursday Ride to Chifley Dam. This week the Thursday Riders met at Maccas McGraths Hill. It was a chilly but sunny autumn morning. There were 17 starters and no new riders to the group. It was a nice ride along Bells Line of Road however there were three lots of road works where we had to wait for a Pilot Escort to continue. To avoid some traffic lights in Lithgow where the group usually gets split up, we turned left into Eskbank Street but missed turning right into Bent Street to make our way across to the Great Western Hwy via the Lithgow Small Arms Factory and Museum, however the corner marking kept the group together so we arrived at Bowenfels Olivers and Shell Service Centre together. Morning tea was had outdoors in front of Olivers. I was happy I got a small cappuccino and the best Lamington for only five bucks at the Shell Foodery.
