Nords Wharf Ride 9th April 2026

Last week’s ride to Dungog was a long but very enjoyable day out, so I was looking forward to a shorter day in the saddle today with the destination, Nords Wharf, on the shores of the lovely Lake Macquarie. We were blessed with a cooler and sunny day and approx. 16 riders turned up at Berowra for the ride. There were no virgins but we did have one newby, Simon, who’d ridden with us previously a couple of times but hadn’t received the clap, so we rectified that this morning!! Welcome Simon

The route was going to be pretty straightforward, it had to be as my BMW Nav 6 (my third) crapped itself a few days ago when I attempted to load todays route onto it.  Briefing over we headed up the Old Road, at Kulnura turned right onto Springs Rd, down Bumble Hill, onto Yarramalong Rd and stopping at the Triangle for morning tea. Very little traffic. Interestingly, as I was corner marking the turn into the Triangle car park, there were two bikes coming up behind me, so I indicated for one of them to corner mark. As they approached I realized they were two police bikes who ignored my directions and one shook his head as he passed me… goodness knows where they came from!! A couple of riders, including Frosty, peeled off at this point for other activities

After MT we headed up Hue Hue Rd to Wyee, turning right onto Wyee Rd then left onto the Pacific Highway at Doyalson. From there it was about 8 kays cruising to the turnoff to Nords Wharf, where we enjoyed a relaxed lunch by the water at Baxter Park in the cool shade of the trees. Lunch over most of us headed towards the motorway and home with a stop at the Pie before final farewells. I called into Pro Cycles on the way home to see if they could sort my Nav 6, it was dead as a dodo so Anthony kindly offered to ask BMW for a new one for me… fingers crossed!!

Thanks to Mark McMahon for doing a great job of keeping us all together as TEC, he had suggested at the ride briefing for the corner marker to head off as he was approaching rather than wait for him to arrive so he didn’t have to stop. Mark reported that this had helped him so we should try to keep that practice up in future rides. Thanks for your company to those that joined me today!!

Cheers, Kim
