Shoalhaven Heads Ride 16th April 2026

 A beautiful autumn day in Sydney saw 6 senior souls depart Maccas Heathcote for lunch at Shoalhaven Heads, via the long way. Seems like there had been a nasty outbreak of SCRAS (South Coast Ride Avoidance Syndrome) which had decimated attendance levels.

 

Never mind, it was perfect weather for riding and off we went via National Park and Albion Park to the Robertson Pie Shop for morno's. New owners have implemented a number of changes as well as a splash of paint...still a great location for a stop! 

 

We then journeyed down Pearson's Lane, Kangaroo Valley, Berry Mountain and Berry to arrive at Shoalhaven Heads where we enjoyed a lunch on the shores of the river. The usual banter and lies imbued with Trump featuring prominently in our discussions. 

 

Similar to the Straits of Hormuz, we noted the New Zealand Navy had initiated a hostile blockade of the Shoalhaven Heads with three of its largest Māori War canoes. Fearing we could feature on the menu of a Māori Hangi, we decided  to retreat back to Sydney in quick haste and escape being impaled by one of their arsenal of 27 ballistic spears. Peace talks are underway. NZ have agreed to withdraw the blockade if Australia accepts and agrees that Pavlova was created in the land of the Long White Cloud. Albo, has apparently called Parliament together to consider the NZ Government's outrageous demands.

  Last week’s ride to Dungog was a long but very enjoyable day out, so I was looking forward to a shorter day in the saddle today with the destination, Nords Wharf, on the shores of the lovely Lake Macquarie. Southern Highlands Ride 12th March 2026

  Departing Heathcote Macca’s   at 10:00am   6 riders (Peter #1, Peter #2, Peter #3 and Peter #4) along with one Dave and one Kieth tracked southward and through the Royal National Park and onto to Stanwell Tops. The road now is in very good shape after the completion of recent roadworks which hindered our last attempted ride through the National Park. Maintaining a steady pace down the Princes Highway to the Kiama Blowhole for morning tea where we were faced with blustery and windy conditions on arrival so diverted to the more sheltered and infamous Fish and Chip Cafe located next to the boat ramp. The weather was being kind to us as we prepared to tackled Jamberoo Road which took us up to the recently renovated Robertson Pie Shop for lunch. Rathmines Ride Report 29th May 2025

  Tony asked that we swap rides as he had an outing, he was keen to attend.   14 Riders gathered on a cold overcast day including a virgin. Wouldn’t you know it, another bloody GS rider. The clap was duly dispensed.   The old road was a novelty. We actually kept to the 60klh speed limit for most of the way due to a slow car who did not have the decency to move over to let us past. Morning tea at Jerrys so no corner markers to that point due to it being a regular stop. Two friendly little piggies were seen along the way and another dropped in to join us for smoko.   After morning tea, I presented a safety talk about the dangers of the gravel, sand and mud that maybe hidden around the corners along Mandalong Road. Just to make sure all had understood the talk a demonstration on how to handle the mud, how not to get out of the mud and thanks Peter W and Co for demonstrating how to lift a bike of a rider’s leg. Binalong week-end ride - 18th - 19th March 2023

 Eight brave souls congregated at St. Ives on a warm Saturday morning. Our fearless leader Geoff "Staysharp" Wiltshire was laid low by the dreaded lurgy so I became the default leader. Luckily Geoff had provided me with all the info I needed for the ride so it was just a matter of following his instructions. We were to meet Russ Pennell at the BP in Kurmond on Bells Line of Road. John Warner offered to be TEC on his Can-Am although he warned me he was having a slight problem with it where it restricted him to 100 kph. That was no problem as I didn't intend to go faster than that with my eleven points. We headed off slightly late along Mona Vale road to the M2, then on to the Abbott Road exit and  Old Windsor Road to Windsor, Turf Farms and Kurmond.   10 or so riders gathered at Berowra looking for a ride whilst the rest of the mob were off gallivanting in Gloucester. One, yours truly, went to the loo and upon his return found himself elected ride leader. The destination was set on Broke (clearly no-one had looked at the ride calendar) and when challenged on where morning tea would be I blurted out Wollombi without thinking. The group rolled out a few minutes before  10am , cos we can so nur 🥳The ride up to Wollombi was brisk but uneventful after successfully navigating the booze bus set up on the outskirts of Berowra and the weather was glorious. I even remembered to slow down for the speed cameras so my portrait wasn’t blurred 🤣 Whilst sat around the benches in Slacks Park riders raised the issue of the leg to Broke being too short so I proposed extending it to Pokolbin Park.
