Infantry Museum Ride 13th Aug 1026

The ride this week was to the Australian Infantry Museum, Singleton. There were 20 riders and no virgins present at the briefing but there were quite a few regular riders that had never been to the Infantry museum.

Morning tea at Jerry’s was a no brainer and assuming everyone was familiar with Jerry’s at Kulnura there was no necessity for corner marking or regrouping between the start point at Berowra and Kulnura.  

It was a straightforward run through to Wollombi and Broke. The roads on this route are much better these days although after recent rain there are some nasty potholes to avoid. The worst section on this ride is Great North Road coming into Wollombi where the road surface is bad but continuing onto Broke along Paynes Crossing and Wollombi Road, the road is in excellent condition as it has been widened and resurfaced.

Overall, this route through to the Golden Highway is a good motorcycling road. The earlier start at 9.30am from Berowra allowed us a 30-minute Smoko break and plenty of time arriving at the Infantry Museum at 11.55am. The weather was perfect for an August winters day. Thanks to TEC Tony on the Motor Guzzi loan bike and Corner Markers Paul, Ian and Rob. My round trip for the day was 385 kms and was back home by 4.40pm. It was a busy day, but it all went well. Thanks to everyone who came on the ride.

  The designated ride leader has sold his bike and is yet to buy a new one. Given that this was a reasonable excuse, I agreed to lead the ride on his behalf.   Despite the forecasted hot day, 20 riders turned up at Wollombi including one virgin, Geoff, who was duly welcomed to the group and given the clap accordingly. We took a different route to smoko at Jerry's which involved 1.5 hours of riding, without any regrouping thanks to the corner marking system working well.  The route was the usual Pacific Highway to a right turn at Calga and onto Somersby followed by a right turn down Dog Trap Road to Ourimbah. We then rejoined the Pacific Highway to Tuggerah where we turned left and headed to Yarramalong and up Bumble Hill to Jerry's.  After Smoko, 6 riders departed for home leaving 14 making it to Wollombi for lunch in the Park. Op Shop Coffee Ride and Maintenance Day Sat 7th October

We had three starters from St Ives at 9am and headed to Allambie Heights to the OpShop. Here we were joined by Vaughn and John O, and sat outside in the playground and enjoyed the coffee and pikelets.  Then   proceeded to Graeme’s where the Maintenance task for today was to rework Vaughn’s pannier frame to fit at the o/s passenger footpeg mount.  We had a few more chiefs than Indians here and managed to get in each others’ way for a bit, but finally the reluctant bracket was secured and declared good, so we then adjourned inside to participate in the generous bbq sausage(s), assorted salads and other goodies. Many Thanks to Graeme for supplying the meal and venue, and we chatted and gorged ourselves till nearly 3pm.   Another good one.

Eleebana Ride 3rd July 2025

  Well , 13 hardy souls showed up to the Berowra start point . Must have had the same thoughts as me - weather clearing , let’s get out there ! Nobody got lost this time , except for myself, missing the Spring rd turnoff to the Bumble hill , embarrassing, but soon rectified.  Weather was quite nice , morning tea at the Dooralong Hall pleasant . Rob McKee left us  here , the rest carried on .  The second part of the ride went well , we all made it to Eleebana together . The conversation leant towards “ Health Problems “ probably due to the average age of us being relatively high .  A quick zap down the motorway to the Pie , with more discussion on various subjects. Binalong week-end ride - 18th - 19th March 2023

 Eight brave souls congregated at St. Ives on a warm Saturday morning. Our fearless leader Geoff "Staysharp" Wiltshire was laid low by the dreaded lurgy so I became the default leader. Luckily Geoff had provided me with all the info I needed for the ride so it was just a matter of following his instructions. We were to meet Russ Pennell at the BP in Kurmond on Bells Line of Road. John Warner offered to be TEC on his Can-Am although he warned me he was having a slight problem with it where it restricted him to 100 kph. That was no problem as I didn't intend to go faster than that with my eleven points. We headed off slightly late along Mona Vale road to the M2, then on to the Abbott Road exit and  Old Windsor Road to Windsor, Turf Farms and Kurmond. Russ wasn't there at the BP so I wondered if he'd given up on us as we were a bit late. No problems as he turned up a couple of minutes later. Glenbrook Sun 28th May

  Gonbug Ulysses Ride Report Glenbrook National Park( a smidgeon of dirt) Saturday 27May2023 What a magic day – cool & clear, for 3 of us ( John O , Geoff W and Herself ) to ride out west, firstly all the way along Comenarra Parkway’s gorgeously “autumnised” twisties, then along to New Line Road and some familiar roads out to Windsor, keeping it as rural as possible (avoiding the awful creeping suburbia). Enjoyed coffee/croissants in Windsor’s familiar centre strip, opposite the Macquarie Arms, then bumped along the cobbled back road, past Francis Greenway’s masterpiece,( St Matthew’s Church), then right onto the link road towards Richmond, but then left across the level crossing, out the back of Clarendon / Hawkesbury Showground (sadly, we had to miss the Orchid Show), along Racecourse Road, then across the busy main road, to aptly named The Driftway (80k limit, nil traffic), then left towards Yarramundi and up the triffik tight twisties (past the Castlereagh Lookout) , th...
