Gerroa Ride 20th Aug 2026

 Oops I’ve had another seniors moment…..forgot all about submitting my ride report until I was awaken at 5am this morning thinking about my early onset something or other and the effects of such!

 

Anyway it started out a beautiful day, the sun was shinning, the Birds were singing, the Bees were buzzing and the hills were alive with the sound of music……hmmmm not really sure Julie Andrew’s is a good fit for a knarly bunch of hard arsed motorcyclists.

 

Anyway seven candidates rocked up to Maccas Heathcoate. Rod provided us with a 20 min dissertation on how wonderful the new BMW R1300GS is and its reliability / technical capabilities as well as his glowing remarks about Procycles! 

 

The ride eventually commenced with a spirited lap through the national park, down the highway and upwards to the Robertson Pie shop for morno’s. We were blessed with virtually no traffic on the way up until I stopped behind a bus at some road works. This instigated a treasonous coup whereby the whole pack nipped around in front of the bus and in a nano second I had been relegated to TEC. I did however manage to get in front of the designated TEC by the time we arrived at the Pie shop.

 

Then it was onwards down Pearson Lane, through Kangaroo Valley, up and over Berry mountain, through Berry and to our destination, Gerroa. We stopped at a beautiful reserve on the Gerroa estuary - well worth repeating. The usual banter took place and Stephen regaled us with a story about how he fearlessly swam with this viscous shark that was as big as a bus. For the record, the only thing true in that story was it was a bus sized shark, but the Whale version that wouldn’t hurt a fly. Moreover, the term of ‘swimming’ Is a gross exaggeration! It was more like an unsuspecting insect splashing about furiously attempting to escape certain death. I believe he was then thrown a noodle which dramatically reduced the level of panicked splashing.

 

It was then a quick run for home as some darkened clouds appeared but not a drop of rain was to be had.

 

A big thank you to Stephen for taking on TEC duties and I hope that all enjoyed the day as much as I did.

Infantry Museum Ride 13th Aug 1026

The ride this week was to the Australian Infantry Museum, Singleton. There were 20 riders and no virgins present at the briefing but there were quite a few regular riders that had never been to the Infantry museum. Morning tea at Jerry’s was a no brainer and assuming everyone was familiar with Jerry’s at Kulnura there was no necessity for corner marking or regrouping between the start point at Berowra and Kulnura.   It was a straightforward run through to Wollombi and Broke. The roads on this route are much better these days although after recent rain there are some nasty potholes to avoid. The worst section on this ride is Great North Road coming into Wollombi where the road surface is bad but continuing onto Broke along Paynes Crossing and Wollombi Road, the road is in excellent condition as it has been widened and resurfaced. Batemans Bay 2 Day Ride 6-7th August 2026

  ride. Everything clicked, no mishaps or misadventures (on the ride anyway) and a safe return home for everybody.   We had 15 booked for the ride, but unfortunately five had to withdraw, three with vehicle issues, one with the dreaded lurgy, and one with family matters to attend to. In fact, we actually had 16 booked for the ride, but one had drafted the email to confirm to me that they were coming, but forgot to press send. Fortunately, we had three late registrations, so ended up with 13 for the ride. Given that two of those who cancelled were sharing, the room configuration did not change for the motel, and they were very happy to have had our custom. Zorbas is a great location right on the waterfront in Batemans Bay, and easy walk to dinner and breakfast.   We had a briefing outlining where we're going, but I'm pretty sure that went in one ear and out the other of everybody there. Nords Wharf Ride 8th Feb 2024

  After a lot of hot and humid weather for much of January I was looking forward to having a ride today with lower temps and less humidity, and that’s just what we got!! The weather conditions were ideal for a ride with cloud cover keeping the temperature in the low twenties. Yay!! Maybe the forecast was why we had one of the largest number of riders, thirty plus, assemble at Berowra for the ride?     Unfortunately, the timing for my overdue tyre replacement yesterday wasn’t good given I was to lead today’s ride. So I didn’t slow the ride up, Rod very kindly agreed to lead us for the first half to give my tyres a bit of time to scuff up. It was a good run up the Old Road, down Bumble Hill and up Yarramolong Valley to The Triangle for morning tea.   Thereafter we headed up Hue Hue Rd and onto Dicksons Rd and through Mandalong. Sunday 23rd June 2024 - Kitchener Hotel Ride that wasn't!!!

 There were four hardy members of the NBUC at St. Ives, three in tintops and one on an actual motorbike!!! The weather forecast was pretty bad. One tintop came because he had broken a fetlock, one tintop came because she was waiting for parts for her trusty stead and one tintop came because he was the ride leader and was hoping nobody would be mad enough to come on a motorbike on such a lousy day. Frazer Beach Ride 15th Feb 2024

I woke up this morning. I thought “that’s a good start”.   I stumbled to the window and looked out over the lake. It was overcast. It was not raining. I thought “ummmm”. I dressed, walked outside, looked at the sky and again thought “ummmm”. It was that sort of day.   There was a WhatsApp message from Rod M. You know Rod, aka “You can take the boy out of the country…” Rod. He’s riding. There was commitment in his message. I had to turn up; never mind the weather.  This was the first sensible use of our WhatsApp site I have seen.   So astride the trusty GS, I dawdled down the M1 under the dank grey skies. It was dry. It was overcast. I turned off the M1 toward Peats Ridge, so that I could ride in and out of the trees and to be out of freeway traffic. The grey skies turned to a gentle wet mist…a drizzle not dissimilar to that around a large waterfall.
