Pokolbin Ride 27th Aug 2026

When I left home, the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the kookaburras were laughing.

I soon realised why they were laughing.

By the time i reached Berowra, the sky was looking rather ominous — the sort of clouds that suggest someone upstairs had just filled a bucket and was deciding where to tip it.

Thankfully, the rain held off.

We had about 17 riders turn up, which was a bloody good effort considering the weather forecast. Clearly, none of us had anything better to do.

We headed off towards Jerry's for morning tea, where I decided to set a nice, firm pace.

At least, I thought it was a nice, firm pace.

All I could see behind me were headlights.

"I'm obviously going too slow," I thought.

Either that, or everyone had decided to keep an eye on the old bloke in front in case he got lost.

A few riders departed us at Jerry's, and the rest of us continued on towards Pokolbin Park via Broke.

No cops.
No incidents.
No arrests.

A very disappointing day for the local constabulary.

Then there was Frosty.

Apparently, Frosty had heard there was a special on at 7-Eleven:

Buy a flavoured milk and get your petrol for free.

Unfortunately, Frosty misunderstood the terms and conditions.

He was eventually chased down by a concerned servo attendant, who apparently wanted to discuss the finer points of the promotion.

Frosty was last seen accelerating away with the determination of a man who had just discovered the deal wasn't actually real.

We eventually made our way back from our separate directions to the Pie.

The highlight of the day's intellectual stimulation came from Rod, who delivered what he clearly considered to be the joke of the century:

"What's the difference between flying pigs and Albanese?"

"F."

There was a long silence.

I think most of us were still waiting for the punchline.

I'll let that one soak in.

All in all, a very enjoyable ride with the Thursday crew.

Good company, good roads, no rain and no incidents — apart from Frosty's brief attempt to secure free fuel through an innovative interpretation of the 7-Eleven loyalty program.

Some pics are up on Facebook. πŸ“ΈπŸ️

Until next time — keep the shiny side up and the flavoured milk paid for.

Regards
Rob McKee
