Railway Museum Ride 10th Sept 2026

 We ride right past this museum at least once or twice every year, I thought it was time we stopped and took a look through it. Our start point was Maccas Narellan and we had 5 riders in our group.

 

The direct route from Narellan to Thirlmere takes only 30 minutes, so I planned out a longer ride that followed, more or less, a figure eight. We don't normally travel through this area so it was good to ride some roads most of us hadn't seen before. After leaving Maccas we headed north up Narellan Rd turning left onto Cobbitty Rd, then left at Silverdale Rd. We tracked through The Oaks and Oakdale and into Picton (spotting the only gendarme for the day!!) and from there travelled south towards Tahmoor stopping at Bargo Sportsground for morning tea.

 

After morning tea I was having trouble getting my new nav device (Chigee) to connect to my phone (for Android Auto), testing Rod's patience to the point that he was dropping his clutch in the gravel and spraying dirt. I think I have a clue why Rod is having so much trouble with his new BMW'(s)!! ðŸ™‚

 

Anyways we then headed off in a southerly direction, which confused everyone, towards Colo Vale. It was then, at a spirited pace, through Hilltop, Balmoral, Buxton and into Thirlmere and the NSW Rail Museum for lunch. We ate at the tables inside the Museum and afterwards had a look through the various train and railway displays that make up the museum. There really are some interesting things to check out, like the Royal carriage that hosted the Queens visit to Australia in 1954, a prison van that was used to transport, you've got it, criminals, around the countryside, and a mail van, that was used to sort the mail "on the go". There were also many other historic trains to look at, for those interested!! I thought it was very worthwhile to visit.

 

After that we split into a couple of groups and headed back home, I was walking the dog by 3.30pm!! It wasn't a long day but I enjoyed it and thanks to those that joined me for the day!!

  Armidale 4 day ride report Day 1 – Tuesday 2 June 11 riders registered for this four day tour but one unfortunately had to drop out on the morning of the trip due to mechanical issues. That makes 10! Ride Report – St. Ives to Samuel Gee Pies, Balaclava Sunday Ride – Bright Skies and Great Pies Two riders, John W and Kevin H, set out from St. Ives under clear blue skies for a relaxed Sunday ride through Sydney’s outer reaches to the pie-lover’s haven, Sammuel Gee Pies in Balaclava. The morning began with perfect riding weather — crisp, bright, and sunny, with the winter chill giving way to a warm throttle hand as the day unfolded. With no rush, the pair took a comfortable pace through the northern suburbs before turning southwest toward the Blue Mountains foothills. Morning tea was enjoyed at Mulgoa , a scenic and quiet village where the roads are as smooth as the coffee. Mudgee 2 Day Ride Report 21-22nd May 2025

  18 odd seasoned riders enthusiastically departed McGraths Hill   at 9:30am  determined to make the best of the inclement weather conditions. Off to Lithgow for morning tea, all arrived slightly damp due to the precipitation along the way. Next to Macca’s Kelso, via Tarana for lunch where a couple of riders refuelled before journeying towards Mudgee, the diversion to Hill End was cancelled as it was thought to be better to arrive in Mudgee sooner rather than later…also allowing more time at the Oriental Hotel and prepare for the traditional dinner. Next morning plan B needed to be evoked because the snow ploughs were being prepared in anticipation of further rain and a number of roads back to Sydney were already suspect with lots of water making riding conditions challenging. Ride to Sydney Society of Model Engineers monthly Open Day at Luddenham - 28th April 2024

Put this in your diary for every last Sunday of the month – this is the sort of venue which people of all ages can enjoy – trains, boats, cars and planes and horses and food. Three of us departed St Ives with a plan –  1. Ride the Comenarra Parkway from end-to-end  soaking up the autumn colours. 2. Wind down into Tree Tops Adventure Park just past Koala Park – a beautiful native forest with plant nursery and café and toilets and lovely walking paths.. 3. THEN head out to the Model Park at Luddenham, avoiding Motorways. Well – that worked pretty well, and we were greeted by Flappn Jack Warner on his 3-wheeler – hadn’t ridden for a few weeks – his steed, in protest, almost didn’t start!! Did I say it was a perfect autumn day. PerfectO. Where to go first? Always a decision – wouldn’t want to miss maybe some spills on the dirt-track, or some magnificent tumble turns up at the flight – hill. Not the Megalong Valley Ride 30th April 2026

    15 riders gathered at McDonalds, McGraths Hill, with little idea where where they were going! After the Megalong Valley ride was scuttled by a collapse on Victoria Pass, several replacements were considered. The winner  was a ride via the Grass Farms, Kurmond, Comleroy Rd. through to Sackville Ferry, Wisemans Ferry, Spencer and Mangrove mountain. Concensus then took us to Somersby and the the full length of the 'Old Road'. It was pretty slow through the Grass Farms, partially due to the ride being very spread out. After gathering at Kurmond we followed Comleroy Rd and then Bull Ridge Rd. through to Sackville Ferry where a flight of swallows put on an aerial display, missing me by less than 30cms. several times. We were again spread out on the way to Wisemans Ferry for morning tea.
