Bulli AMCA Event - Saturday 12th August
Ride Report – Bulli AMCA Event – Saturday 12th
August
Once again it seems we chose the better day of the weekend
for our ride to the AMCA Bulli Antique Motorcycle Event at Bulli Showgrounds.
Saturday 12th was sunny and mild, we had seven
bikes at ST Ives for a 9.05am departure. We travelled down the A3 to Top Ryde
then west along Victoria Road to Ermington, then followed the A6 south all the
way to Heathcote Road. This avoided the Olympic Park precinct.
At Heathcote Road we turned east, crossed the Woronora River
to the Princes Highway and south into Heathcote arriving at 10.30am for a leg
stretch at the Ampol servo, where we met Vaughn. He’d had a slow trip from the
City, just beating us to the servo.
From Heathcote we travelled via Waterfall and Royal National
Park to another short stop at Bald Hill where we again remarked on the
excellent day, then up Lawrence Hargrave Drive to the Old Highway and south to
Bulli Tops, then down the Bulli Pass and to the Showgrounds, arriving around
11.45am.
Lots of helpful Marshalls and parking onsite near the
“Grassy Knoll” meant a short stroll to the Event, where we were surrounded by
hundreds of motorcycles new and old, along with trade stalls and swap meet
stalls, technical talks and bike and parts auctions. This year’s Event was highlighting Italian
makes, and I joined with about a thousand other middle-aged browsers wandering
about in motorcycle heaven.
By around 1.30pm the feet and legs were complaining so I
returned to the Grassy Knoll for a break to find half our team were preparing
to depart, so we got organised and headed homewards. Back up Bulli Pass and via
the Old Highway up to Waterfall, then I turned onto Heathcote Road and retraced
my steps back to Ryde, then via Fullers Bridge and Roseville Bridge, and home
by 3.45pm.
Thanks for coming today to Chris, Bonny, Vaughn, Tony,
Elliot, John W, and new Members Alex and Linda on their GORGEOUS Victory. Geoff W.
