Luskintyre Ride 19th March 2026

 7 riders gathered at Berowra for the 9:30am start of the trip to the airfield which was 6 more than I expected. There was wide agreement that this destination was very much weather dependent given the frequent showers already experienced on the way to the gather.

As part of the ride briefing it was agreed that we would review the destination on approach to Kulnura and if that was good we would review again at morning tea in Wollombi.

The weather apps gave differing views on the rain risk, some showing a dry trip and others not so much. Turns out these latter fortune tellers were on the money as it rained steadily but not heavily all the way to Central Mangrove. Just as I was set on calling a halt at Jerry’s the rain stopped and the roads became dry so we pushed on to Wollombi for smoko.

Another look at the weather apps at Slacks Park showed lots of rain activity over Cessnock and Luskintyre so the group unanimously decided to give the airfield a miss and head back to the Pie for lunch. This looked the much drier option however those bloody fortune tellers lied once again. Before we even got to Kulnura the heavens opened and we got wet, roads became obstacle courses of river crossings, deep puddles, hidden potholes and slippery suckers. The pace slowed accordingly and 7 soggy heroes finally made it to the Pie at around 12:15pm.

As we dismounted our steeds a couple of riders found they had hidden water tanks in their rain jacket sleeves prompting delivery demonstrations. Others had new tattoos from soggy gloves and most had damp nether regions. Nevertheless as we hunkered down inside as this was the only dry spot for all 7, problems were solved, stories told and the Michael extracted so whilst we were damp our spirits clearly weren’t.

  Departing Heathcote Macca’s   at 10:00am   6 riders (Peter #1, Peter #2, Peter #3 and Peter #4) along with one Dave and one Kieth tracked southward and through the Royal National Park and onto to Stanwell Tops. The road now is in very good shape after the completion of recent roadworks which hindered our last attempted ride through the National Park. Maintaining a steady pace down the Princes Highway to the Kiama Blowhole for morning tea where we were faced with blustery and windy conditions on arrival so diverted to the more sheltered and infamous Fish and Chip Cafe located next to the boat ramp. The weather was being kind to us as we prepared to tackled Jamberoo Road which took us up to the recently renovated Robertson Pie Shop for lunch. Braidwood Ride 25-26th Feb 2016

               The Three Wise Men   With inclement weather in the offering,13 riders set off from McGraths Hill, with one nameless rider mistakenly ready to depart from Pheasants Nest, some 103km away. Scotty & Karen had planned to meet us at Oberon for lunch. A pleasant ride through to Oberon where the full group of 16 assembled, including Pheasants Nest Andrew! It was then a spirited ride down to Trappers Bakery at Goulburn via Shooters Hill. We then routed east to Bungonia and rejoined the main road at Tarago. At this point the dark clouds had moved in and the sky's opened up. Some stopped to put on their wets while others soldiered on to Braidwood. Suffice to say most ended up a little on the damp side.   It was then off to the Royal Hotel for a couple of 'frothy' ones and dinner.   It was a small, sad-arsed group. But we’ll come back to that.     The morning started off interestingly. We motored off, eight of us, and almost immediately we were arrested. By the police. Of course, we denied everything, dobbed each other in without being asked and in due course, none of us having been found to be intoxicated by anything but the warm weather, were released. Soon the small and grumbling traffic jam we had help create moved on.   Off to Jerries at Kulnara for morning tea, or coffee. Some interesting news from Jerry. His establishment will be closed from next week to the end of January. He, with his family, are off to Vietnam. He has subbed in a catering van, so that coffee will be available but there will be no Portuguese tarts. Frazer Beach Ride 8th December 2022

  Thank you to the weather gods for a near perfect summer riding day. Not too hot, no rain and a breeze to keep us comfortable in all the gear.   We had two new Dave’s riding with us today so they were given an obligatory dose of the clap. One on a VStrom and the other on a Harley but sadly only one made it to morning tea. We also lost the dromosagnosian Danny at the same time 🙁   So here’s the thing, apparently the new corner marking system, whilst very effective, needs a couple more tweaks to go with the TEC not waiting for latecomers to refuel.   The Leader has an obligation to pick a spot for the corner marker that is safe, gives enough warning to the ride group AND    is very visible. The Marker has an obligation to mark the corner as and where requested, with indicator and arm signals to the ride group and not randomly decide to turn into the corner, stop in the shade where they are hard to see, side on so ...
